24/04/2008 'Milk' tops the polls!

Great news for Milk! The short film, as mentioned in the previous post, has been shown on Propeller TV several times in the last two months. But now it has been voted viewers top choice by watchers of the channel (195 on Sky)! This is great news for us on our debut film and will hopefully help to get our names about.
But we would also like to stay there for as long as possible, so follow this link (vote for Milk!) and vote for the film to help us get more coverage. Thanks again to everyone who has helped to make it what it is.

18/04/2008 Festival News and Update.

This month we received news from 3 festivals. We would like to report awards in every category! But we can't... Milk has unfortunately been rejected from London Independant, Cannes and Britspotting Germany. It's not all doom and gloom though; Milk was accepted onto Propeller TV (Sky Channel 195) and has been shown as many as 3 times already nationwide!

Milk is still awaiting news from Edinburgh, Pangea Day (New York) and Soho Shorts, which should arrive in May and June.

Meanwhile, we are well on our way to completing our latest screenplay. The new script will delve into a new area of human emotion and explore rewards and consequences while keeping that Black Country flavour. Already plans are afoot to broaden our capabilties with new technologies and techniques, bringing more adventure and elaborative storytelling.
More details in the following weeks...

11/02/2008 Back to the drawing board...

Hi to all! After a blogging long break I thought it was time to post another installment. Following the adrenaline rush that was the 'Milk' premiere in January, we thought we better get back to work with a new script, with new characters and a new outlook on society.

*'Milk' review*

Although I can't disclose any details, I can say that 2008 will bring more adventure into our film-making. As a group, we want to explore our locality more deeply, be more expressive in our dialogues and include a greater complexity in our narratives. And we aren't short on inpiration.

The day-to-day hustle and bustle of small towns such as Dudley provide a portraiture of Black Country life; here is your scene. The glowing, wintry sun warms the stones in the structures and set the mind to wonder into peoples hidden lives; here are your characters. A flurry of seemingly predestined conflicts paint the picture of human nature; here is you drama. The BAFTA award of Best British Film to This is England by Midlander Shane Meadows; here is your encouragement.

So with a new mindset, an increased desire to succeed and a stream of inspiration and encouragement flowing our way, we feel the Frames could be in for a good year.

The Frames last week completed the shooting of their first independant production, 'MILK'. The film was shot in Tipton and Kings Heath between 30th July and 4th August.

The film follows a young woman who becomes trapped in a life that she never aspired for. Her partner depressed and vicious, her family simply oblivious and far more focused on her sister Annie, Steph is haunted by one tragedy that dictates her emotions. When it all comes together, how will she deal with the pressure?

Starring Anna Tyrie as Steph and Jamie Duncombe as Gaz, the short piece directed by Damien Hyde, is due in November.

The Frames would like to say a big thank-you to all who took part in the making of this film, we'll see you soon!

22/01/2007     'EXPRESSO' featuring Sir Norman Wisdom

Two of us on the week beginning 08/01 had the great experience of working on a new film called 'Expresso'. This is a new comedy backed by Film Birmingham and funded by Screen West Midlands.

You may of course have already heard of this film as it has been widely publicised by many regional newspapers such as Express and Star and BBC Midland News.

The film is a compilation of short stories based around a single table in a café, and was written by Martin Nigel Davey. Directed by Kevin Powis, it features quite a number of well known actors; Geoffrey Hughes (Heartbeat), Don Warrington (Rising Damp), Guy Henry (Extras, V for Vendetta), Vincent Franklin (Confetti) and of course the legendary Sir Norman Wisdom who made his comeback at the age of 91!

Normans scene features him as a vicar trying to write a sermon, but being hampered by a persistently annoying fly. On set, Kevin Powis remarked, "I'm just chuffed that Norman is here!". And he didn't let anyone down as his audience within the room were captivated by his comedic jabbing at the attacking fly.

The film also starred Richard Ng who has appeared in many Chinese movies and Finty Williams who is the daughter of Dame Judi Dench.

The two of us involved in the shoot were responsible for technical assistance and set preparation/decoration, and we had a great time meeting and working with such a great cast.

The film is out now. You can visit the website at www.expressofilm.com.
